Cycling
With spectacular scenery, relatively quiet roads, temperate climate and its small distances between towns, Tasmania just might be Australia’s premier cycling destination.
You can pedal your way about all the best characters of Tasmania. From relaxing (well, reasonably) tours of wineries to forested mountain passes. Tour a city cycleway, cruise by century-old country hedgerows, or swoop downhill on the awesome Mt Wellington. Then, from Hobart, cycle east to beaches or west to wilderness.
Tasmanians take their biking seriously and from Devonport in the north to Dover in the south, the Tasmanian Trail runs for 480km, through farmlands, highlands, towering eucalyptus forests and towns. It’s a multi-user trail that’s popular with hikers and horseriders too.
